Patients enjoy warmth of Sylvan Ward

Snowy treat for Hospice patients

For many patients in the Hospice's in-patient unit Sylvan Ward, the charity’s beautiful garden offers them important and peaceful respite.

But the recent deluge of snow that has hit the country has forced patients to remain within the warm confines of the Hospice.

Realising that patients missed experiencing the snow, even in the freezing temperatures, quick-thinking nurses hit on the idea of how to solve this problem.

Jane Carpenter, Senior Registered Nurse, explains: “The patients have loved seeing the beautiful landscape of the Hospice garden under snow, but have missed out on actually being able to experience it for themselves.

“So our nurses decided to bring some of the snow indoors and allow the patients in Sylvan Ward to touch it.

“This really was the best of both worlds as patients could experience the texture and touch of the snow while staying warm and away from the minus temperatures.

“This was a great idea from our nurses and is just another example of how they will always look to go the extra yard in comforting and supporting our patients.”
