THE sterling commitment and hard work shown by volunteers at St Nicholas Hospice Care has been highlighted in the BBC1 show Inside Out.
BBC presenter Jenny Kirk spent two weeks at the charity filming for the programme which will pay tribute to the 500-plus volunteers who work at the Hospice.
Volunteers who man reception, sort out the tonnes of generous donations every year and also work within the bereavement team were all featured along with the Hospice’s Headstart programme – which helps patients cope with hair loss.
Hospice Chief Executive Barbara Gale said: “The role of every volunteer at the Hospice is crucial in its day-to-day running.
“We value the help and support we get from every single one of our volunteers and we are delighted that their sterling work has been recognised by the Inside Out team and presenter Jenny Kirk.”
In all, more than 500 volunteers give over 1,800 hours of support each month at the Hospice, and save the organisation nearly £400,000 in wages by doing so.
