New furniture shop enjoys record-breaking opening day

Donations still needed to continue shop's success

The Hospice's latest retail shop in Newmarket took a massive £2,000 in just five hours of trading during an amazing opening day on Saturday (21 November).

Thanks to the sweeping generosity of customers in Newmarket and beyond, Hospice managers believe the high quality furniture shop took the highest one-day takings in the history of our high street shops

Martin Logan, Shop Manager, said: “We would like to thank the people of Newmarket and beyond who supported our new shop in such a fantastic way.

“Everyone at the Hospice who helped realise the dream of opening a new furniture shop in the town did us absolutely proud.

“The shop looked amazing and the total made was incredible. We now hope customers will continue to support us in such an enthusiastic way as well as donating good quality second-hand furniture and homeware.”

The shop in the Guineas Centre was officially opened by Newmarket Mayor Jane Bailey on Saturday morning while MP Richard Spring also visited and gave the venture his backing.

The new Hospice shop, which replaces the former Linens and Things store, only sells good quality pre-owned furniture and household items at bargain prices.

The opening day success of the shop now means more donated furniture is needed as well as volunteers to help in the shop for a few hours a week.

Anyone who can help with donations or volunteering should contact Martin on 01638 666076 or drop in to either shop.
