St Nicholas Hospice Care is a charity which helps people live with life-threatening and terminal illnesses. This can include cancer, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease and the advanced stages of heart and lung disease.
St Nicholas Hospice Care provides care and support throughout West Suffolk and Thetford. All our services are free of charge.
We see around 2,000 patients and their families every year and rely on the dedicated support of over 500 volunteers and 100+ staff.
We believe we have supported approximately 50,000 local people since our inception 25 years ago.
It costs £4.8 million per year to run the organsation.
The Government funds only 27% of the running costs (40% of patient care costs) and leaves the Hospice needing to raise £10,000 per day through the generosity of people in the local community.
We support patients and their families in a variety of ways including on our Sylvan Ward, which offers round-the-clock specialist medical nursing care at the Hospice. We also provide activities and rehabilitation therapies through Orchard Day Therapy while our Community Hospice Team provides care and support for people in their own homes. We also offer family support and confidential counselling to both adults and young people coping with bereavement and grief.
