Bereavement support for adults

This service is for relatives and close friends of people who have been patients of any of the St Nicholas Hospice Care services. We can also help relatives of people who have died in other hospices.

What do we do?

We provide one-to-one support with a trained bereavement volunteer or a professional staff member from the family support team. Groups are also provided where a person can meet up with others who have shared experiences of grief and loss. Advice can also be given on useful social contact organisations in the area.

How might this help?

We aim to help people develop their coping ability by providing a safe setting in which they can explore their feelings about loss, discuss their fears or reflect on difficult issues arising from their experiences. Some people find that they only need brief contact with the service and carry on with the support of family or friends, while others may stay in contact for a longer period.

When and where would I see someone?

You would be able to meet with a bereavement worker here at the hospice or in your own home. We write to relatives five or six weeks after a death and people have the choice to let us know whether they want a service or not.
